Amanda Hass – Practicum Supervisor

Amanda Hass – Practicum Supervisor

My name is Amanda, and I’m a Registered Social Worker in New Brunswick and in Ontario. I am a former member of MCI and now I work independently out of my own home-based clinic in Trenton, Ontario.
MCI has been contracting me to provide clinical supervision to Yorkville MACP practicum students since January 2024. I meet with students weekly (and as-needed), and we conduct clinical case conferences, work together on formulations and case conceptualization, collaboratively develop treatment plans, review documentation, and explore ethical considerations.
I enjoy supervision because it allows me to use a different part of my brain than what I use in sessions with clients. I get to see the forest through the trees. I have learned so much in my experience of providing supervision to students, that it’s allowed me to grow and develop as a therapist with my own clients. I can genuinely say that I look forward to my supervision meetings with students every week.
As a supervisor, I think that it’s my role to support you from a place of compassion and respect. I don’t micromanage! I trust you to bring your own authentic Self to the therapeutic space that you create with clients. I provide resources and structuring and tools, and I am always just a phone call away in the event of an urgent situation or crisis. Much in the way that I show up with clients, I view myself as being in the passenger seat and supporting you while you’re in the drivers seat. I’ll give you the directions, but I will also support you if you decide to take a different route (as long as it’s a safe one!).
